Mark here. Here’s what we have in store for this week…
WHAT I’M WRITING ABOUT
The Uncommon Path
“Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way.” — Booker T. Washington
Living an uncommon life starts with recognizing the traps of the common path. “Uncommon” is not just the title of my new book—it’s a call to action. Too often, people choose comfort and complacency to follow paths laid out by others. It takes courage to follow your passion, not someone else’s expectations.
Common behaviors keep us stuck. Eating poorly because it’s convenient, staying in relationships out of fear, or blowing off responsibilities for temporary fun—these choices lead to mediocrity. Extraordinary living demands discipline, courage, and the ability to make tough decisions that align with your ultimate truth.
To break free from the common and live an extraordinary life, you must master the Five Mountains: Physical, Mental, Emotional, Intuitional, and Kokoro (Heart). This holistic approach prepares you for life’s challenges. Physical mastery involves peak conditioning and proper nutrition. Mental mastery means sharpening your mind through study and meditation. Emotional mastery builds resilience and positivity. Intuitional mastery develops your gut instincts. Kokoro mastery integrates heart and mind and guides you with clarity to your calling in life, which you embark on with an unwavering commitment and integrity.
Being uncommon also means standing up against injustice, overcoming imposter syndrome, and becoming the person you’re meant to be. Embrace the Uncommon path, master the Five Mountains, and you can’t help but live an extraordinary life!
If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, my new book Uncommon comes out today. It’s an action-oriented playbook to choosing your Uncommon path in life – the path to accelerate your progress in health, career, relationships and self growth. I can’t wait for you to read it.

I’m inspired by the power of disconnecting from electronics for at least three hours daily. I am starting my day by remaining unplugged from my devices and deepening my meditation and morning rituals. This extension into my existing routine allows me to contemplate life’s flow and tune into nature’s wisdom. The resulting calmness throughout my body enhances my presence in conversations, making me more attuned to subtle cues. For leaders, embracing such practices fosters deeper self-awareness and resilience, essential for guiding teams with clarity and purpose.

PRACTICE OR HABIT TO TRY
Active Listening: To enhance your journey along the emotional mountain, cultivate the habit of active listening. Start by setting the intention to fully engage in conversations, free from distractions (put away the phone, focus on your breath, and listen). When someone speaks, focus on their words, tone, and body language. Reflect back on what you hear to ensure understanding and validate their ideas and feelings. This practice builds trust and deepens connections. For leaders, active listening fosters a supportive environment where team members feel valued and heard, ultimately leading to more cohesive and effective teamwork.
