Mark here. Here’s what we have in store for this week…
WHAT I’M WRITING ABOUT
Don’t Stop Now: How to Push Through Life’s Illusions of Success
In SEAL training, we faced a brutal 12-mile soft sand run after Hell Week. When the finish line seemed in sight, exhaustion hit hard, and many believed they were done. As the instructor pushed the pace, we sprinted the last 100 yards—only to realize the finish line was a false peak. The instructor kept running, and some fell to the ground, unable to push forward.
This moment serves as a strong reminder and metaphor: false peaks exist throughout life. We believe we’ve achieved success, only to encounter further challenges. Regardless of their background and experience, leaders need to cultivate the mental resilience to persevere during difficult times.
Action Step:
When you think you’re done, ask yourself:
“Is this the real end, or just a false peak?”
Develop critical thinking by questioning assumptions, staying alert, and pushing your limits. Like the SEALs, your true success lies beyond the false peaks. Our greatest achievements require continuous effort, resilience, and mental clarity.
Keep going—lead with resilience.
Your Turn to Reflect
Now it’s your turn: What’s a false peak you’ve faced, and how did you push through it? Share your story in the comments below! We’d love to hear your insights and strategies for overcoming challenges.

NEW EPISODE – THE MARK DIVINE SHOW
Vertical Develpopment
Episode # 501 – Kenny Kane
Kenny Kane is a life-long performer and coach dedicated to improving quality of life through principled methods. In 2014, he bought CrossFit Los Angeles with a vision to build a unified coaching team, rebranding it in 2017 as Oak Park—a nod to his Santa Rosa roots and a symbol of growth. With a diverse background, Kenny grew up in a fitness-oriented family, earned a Black Belt at 15, and competed in sports while at UC Davis. He trained for the Olympic Trials before a running injury shifted his focus to stand-up comedy and private coaching. For 14 years, he balanced performing and coaching, transforming clients while touring the world. Retiring from performance in 2013, Kenny now dedicates himself fully to coaching and developing his business, continuing to learn and grow alongside his Oak Park community.
Podcast Highlights:
In this episode, Kenny shares his powerful story of losing his home in the Palisades fires and how his past experiences and personal philosophy helped him navigate the crisis. He discusses the OODA loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) and how he applied this framework to stay focused and make quick decisions under pressure. Kenny also emphasizes the importance of physical and mental preparedness for unforeseen events, revealing how his physical training helped him stay grounded during the fire. We discussed how purpose-driven leadership, grounded in a clear vision, can anchor actions and decisions in times of uncertainty.

PRACTICE OR HABIT TO TRY
Building Stronger Communities starts with small, consistent actions that foster connection and trust. Begin by reaching out to those around you and make a plan to get together—whether it’s a neighbor, coworker, or someone you see regularly. Take time to listen to their stories and show genuine curiosity. Community is about creating meaningful relationships, so focus on making others feel heard and valued. You can do this by volunteering, supporting a local business, or offering help to someone in need.
