Mark here. Here’s what we have in store for this week…
WHAT I’M WRITING ABOUT
Rediscovering Ritual
“Any ritual is an opportunity for transformation. To do a ritual, you must be willing to be transformed in some way.”-Starhawk
I’ve found that fostering resilience and fortitude hinges on cultivating and sticking to a few essential rituals. Each morning, I start by “winning in my mind before stepping foot on the battleground” of my day. ‘Winning in my mind’ involves a combination of breathing exercises, meditation, visualization, and yoga to center myself and set a positive tone. Then, I incorporate spot drills throughout the day to maintain focus, clarity, and calm. These include quick physical exercises, a cold plunge, connecting with my team, and spending time outside. These activities help reset my mind and body, ensuring I stay productive and balanced. Finally, in the evening, I engage in a ritual that serves as a debrief, reflecting on lessons learned and eradicating any potential regrets. This practice helps me process the day’s events and prepares me for a restful night, ready to tackle the next day’s challenges with renewed vigor. You can build off these ideas to create your own powerful rituals. Start by identifying what activities ground you and bring clarity. Incorporate these into your daily routine with intention and consistency. The value of these rituals cannot be overstated—they provide a framework for resilience, enhance mental clarity, and foster a sense of purpose, ultimately leading to more effective and inspired leadership.
NEW EPISODE – THE MARK DIVINE SHOW
Episode # 466 Stuntman Psychologist Reveals Pre-Performance Rituals to Master Your Mind & Body (with Dr. Brian Hite)
Brian Hite, Ph.D., has an eclectic background that includes work as a stuntman and stunt coordinator on over 150 shows and movies, adjunct faculty at Grand Canyon University (GCU) serving as a Senior Dissertation Chair, Master Resilience Trainer and performance psychology consultant for the U.S. Army, co-host of the popular podcast “Poking Holes in Blinders: Two Stunt Guys Exploring Everyday Concepts in Creative Ways,” and owner and founder of Begin Again Performance Psychology. His consulting business focuses on developing mental strength and overall well-being in athletes, coaches, performers, and business leaders of all ages.
He holds a Master’s in Sport Psychology and a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology. He and his amazing 10-year-old daughter live in Nashville with his excellent partner, her two boys, two cats, and one incredibly hearty fish.
Podcast Highlights:
Brian outlines the Four Phases of Performance in this discussion, emphasizing the importance of mastering the ‘right before’ phase. He highlights that this phase is crucial to prevent emotions and energy from spiraling out of control. He then delves into achieving the Ideal Performance State by employing breath control, progressive muscle relaxation, and mental imagery. Our discussion was dynamic as Brian, similar to my work with Unbeatable Mind, also drew parallels between Eastern Philosophy and Western Psychology, underscoring their shared emphasis on the mind-body connection and attaining optimal mental states.

WHAT’S INSPIRING ME
I’m deeply moved by the majestic presence of the redwood trees I had the privilege to visit this past weekend in Northern California. Sandy, my wife, and I embarked on a hike through one of the oldest groves of trees, and instantly, I felt revitalized, connected, and filled with inspiration. Being immersed in nature is fundamental to nourishing not just our bodies but also our minds and spirits. The experience has sparked a profound sense of inspiration, which I’m still exploring and eagerly anticipate sharing in my upcoming writings and discussions.
